CORE PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Participants experience a community leadership program framed around statewide issues. Class members will engage in interactive learning experiences, events, socials, community engaged projects, and strengths-based coaching. These shared experiences transform individuals into a network of leaders to shape Rhode Island's future. The Core Program is not a starting point for leadership development, but rather a process for leaders to refine and enhance their commitment to Rhode Island. Following graduation, you join Leadership Rhode Island's network of 2,800+ alumni, and gain access to 700,000+ leaders through a National Leadership Network.
CLASS OF 2023 - TAU II - SCHEDULE
Centered on engagement, the program begins with a two-day overnight Orientation Retreat in January, followed by monthly session days from February to October. Full participation is required on session days and attendance at the retreat is mandatory. Employer support is essential as session days occur during typical work hours (7:30am-5:30pm). Leadership in Action projects, completed by small cross sector teams, could require an additional 10 hours monthly. Additional learning opportunities, events, and socials will be provided throughout the year, but these are optional.

COVID-19 Statement and Vaccine Requirement
Although we plan to meet in person in 2023, we will monitor public health conditions and make any pivots that are necessary throughout the year. Whether in-person, virtual, or both, we are confident the program will be as immersive and thought-provoking as ever, providing the unique opportunity for each class member to build their connections and leadership throughout the state.
We have decided to require class members to be fully vaccinated for the 2023 Tau II class as we did for the previous class. We align with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations in terms of what constitutes full vaccination against COVID-19, which may change throughout the program year. We believe this will help us keep everyone, and their families, as safe and healthy as possible. Should you be accepted into the program, you will be instructed on how to confirm your vaccination status. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Teresa DeFlitch at email@example.com.
Selection of participants is based on information provided on the application, two letters of reference, and a personal interview.
Please allow ample time for the following steps:
Step 1: Complete online application by September 26, 2023. You will be prompted to pay the $60 non-refundable application fee prior to submission.
Step 2: Send Reference Letter Form to TWO references. You will receive your customized link to the Reference Letter Form in the follow up email after you submit your application. References must be submitted by October 3, 2022.
Step 3: Complete CliftonStrengths assessment (a code will be emailed to you).
Step 4: Await scheduling by Leadership Rhode Island for an alumni panel interview.
A committee made up of Leadership Rhode Island alumni will select a cohort of approximately 75 leaders who demonstrate a commitment to Rhode Island and are driven to positively transform the state. The committee seeks to create a diverse, dynamic, and well-balanced class, with an emphasis on broad representation of sectors, occupations, generations, racial/ethnic/cultural backgrounds, geographic residence, and community interests.
The $5,995 tuition covers all program costs, including meals, materials, and all resources associated with the retreat and session days. Payment in full is due Monday, December 5th. There is also an option that calls for a 25 percent initial payment and a payment schedule that ends with a final payment by September 1st, 2023. Acceptable payment methods: check or cashiers check payable to "Leadership Rhode Island". Online payments include a 3% credit card processing fee. Each participant must make a personal commitment of $200 by Monday, December 5th. Tuition is non-refundable.
Leadership Rhode Island has a tuition assistance fund available to those who demonstrate financial need. Please know that funds are limited and are needs-based, which is why, in addition to the Tuition Assistance form, we require the first page of your 2022 tax return. Applications for tuition assistance must be submitted by September 26, 2023. No tuition assistance requests will be accepted after the application deadline.
Tuition assistance requests and applications for admission to the Class of 2023 are considered independently.
If you have any questions about Tuition Assistance, please contact Teresa DeFlitch at firstname.lastname@example.org. Requests for assistance will be kept confidential.
