Welcome to the Alumni Network: 2023 Tau II Class

Last week, 75 Tau IIs graduated the Core Program, bringing the total number of alumni to over 3,000 alum! Congratulations to the 2023 Tau IIs, we are so excited to welcome you into the Alumni Network!
This year’s commencement ceremony was held in Woonsocket as their Leadership in Action projects were based on implementing Mariam Kaba‘s 2022 Transform Rhode Island Scholarship vision of job aid, education, and “Restoring the Village” of Woonsocket. During final presentations, the Tau IIs shared important impacts of their projects including:
Team 1: An extensive toolkit was created for Woonsocket High School to host a “Career Exploration Day” for students.
Team 2: A youth-designed mural will be installed inside Woonsocket High School.
Team 3: Over 300+ community members were served and were provided the opportunity to explore untraditional career paths.
Team 4: Over 600 books were donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Rhode Island.
Team 5: By spring, a garden space will be ready for Woonsocket residents to make their own.
Team 6: A grab-and-go food pantry will be installed in Woonsocket Youth Center to combat food insecurity.
Team 7: Woonsocket families had the opportunity to learn about sustainable agriculture practices and where their food comes from through a farm-to-table dinner experience.
Team 8: A small business bash was held at the Woonsocket Education Center for youth to have an opportunity to explore career opportunities, network, and learn from entrepreneurs/small business owners.
Team 9: A free financial literacy field trip to Bryant University will be provided to Woonsocket High School students
Team 10: Perishable food items and mentors will be provided for residents and students of Woonsocket.
As a result of these projects, almost 3,000 individuals were positively impacted, 50 people were mobilized to take action, and 87 relationships were built with community partners including:
Woonsocket High School, Riverzedge Arts, Milagros Project, Books are Wings, Boys & Girls Club of Northern Rhode Island, Grow Up Community Garden, Open fArms Retreat, We Share Hope, Woonsocket Youth Center, City Of Woonsocket, Woonsocket Education Center, Navigant Credit Union, Fidelity, Bryant University, Community Care Alliance, and Mentor Rhode Island!
After Commencement, we headed over to Savini’s Pomodoro’s in Woonsocket to continue the celebration of the Tau IIs and all that was done to help bring Mariam Kaba‘s 2022 Transform Rhode Island Scholarship vision to life!
We celebrated with Community partners, took pictures, painted a “Restoring the Village” mural to be donated to Woonsocket High School, and danced the night away to all of our favorite tunes!
The Tau II Graduation Raffle also raised over $1,200 in tuition assistance with winner, 2023 Tau II Co-Chair Charise Wilson (2022 Sigma II) taking home the grand prize!
