5 Questions with Javier Grandile:
I’ve always believed that meaningful connections are at the heart of thriving communities. When I learned about this role at LRI, it felt like the perfect opportunity to be part of something bigger — creating spaces for people to come together, exchange ideas, and work toward a stronger Rhode Island. I was drawn to the idea of helping design and support experiences that inspire leadership, collaboration, and positive change.
2. What are you most excited about as you take on your new role here?
I’m really excited about meeting the people who make Rhode Island special. Every event is a chance to learn new stories, build relationships, and be part of the community in a meaningful way. I’m also looking forward to helping shape events that not only bring people together but leave a lasting, positive impact.
I recently moved to Rhode Island from Australia, and it’s quite a shift — from the weather to the city life and even the pace of day-to-day living. One of the first things I wanted to do was find a way to feel connected to my new community, and LRI’s mission really resonated with me. The idea of building leadership, strengthening connections, and working together for a thriving Rhode Island felt personal because I understand what it means to start fresh and build meaningful relationships in a new place. I see this role as a great opportunity to not only support the community but to become a part of it.
4. What is your favorite thing to do in Rhode Island?
I’ve fallen in love with exploring the coastline. Whether it’s taking a walk near the ocean in Newport or enjoying sunset views in Providence, there’s something really peaceful and grounding about being near the water. It’s quickly become my favorite way to unwind and discover new corners of the state.
5. Rhode Island is known for having an amazing food scene. Do you have a favorite restaurant?
I’m still working my way through. I’m not too caught up in the food scene, to be honest — back in Australia, it’s all about brunch and good coffee! So here, I’ve been on the hunt for my go-to coffee spot, and so far, Cafe Zoey on Hope Street has the best coffee I’ve tried. I love grabbing a cup and walking around the East Side and getting to know the city a bit more.
