Four TEDxProvidence 2017 speakers announced

The first four speakers of TEDxProvidence 2017 were announced Monday by the Providence Speaking Society. The event, which will be held at The Vets Memorial Auditorium on Sept. 30, will feature Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Chanda Womack, Raymond Two Hawks Watson (LRI '15), and Adeene Denton.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman William J. Conley (LRI '01), D-East Providence, said the agreement frees the state to move forward, “allowing the excise tax phaseout while still providing protections that will monitor its economic feasibility for the state.”

Meet the Young Latino Mayor Who Is Bringing Back His Rhode Island City

James Diossa (LRI '12) became the mayor of Central Falls in 2012 at the age of 27. His victory came at a time when the city was shocked by scandal; former mayor Charles Moreau had been indicted on corruption charges and the city had declared bankruptcy.
